4.5Km of mains water PE pipeline has been installed in the rural area of Banks, north of Southport.
The majority of the pipeline is laid in traditional open cut trenches.
Also required was installation beneath a twin drainage channel, a number of ditches and three dual carriageway crossings.
These crossings were undertaken using horizontal directional drilling.
WOW what a great result!
The North Southport site team working on the United Utilities contract (Gas and Water) have received two WOW awards for outstanding customer service.
The project to replace the water mains along Hoole Lane Banks required some road closures in, a residential area with several local businesses and shops.
Although the team sent out advance warning letters to advise of the works, the disruption attracted a lot of attention from frustrated locals, resulting in some complaints.
Quick to act, the customer services co-ordinators took steps to keep talking to locals and ensure they knew what was happening.
Lesley Miller, Customer Service Co-ordinator said: “We held a public event to speak to residents about any concerns they had and to try and minimise any complaints. The customers who came along to the event had nothing but positive feedback regarding the site team and the project team.
“Everyone commented on how good the work has been and they understood the need for the project. What I thought was going to be a difficult day actual turned out to be one of the best events I have held”
To minimise disruption, the team worked weekends and completed the project in 5 weeks – 3 weeks ahead of schedule. They also accommodated access requests for residents and businesses in the area on a daily basis.
As a result of their hard work and dedication to customer service, the team received two WOW awards recognising Site Manager, Noel Prestage and the P&H Pipelines team John Hayhurst, John Nickolaus, Mark Wilson and Joe Duxbury.
Noel Prestage commented: “It is a great to see the team’s hard work acknowledged with these awards.
“Although the original scope of works outlined a full road closure, after discussions we agreed to accommodate access requests, this was a challenging task but we delivered the project in a safe and timely manner; receiving great customer feedback in the process.”
